A comprehensive textbook that serves well as a guide to learning about local anesthetics and techniques of administering local anesthesia. It is well arranged starting with physiology, pharmacology, patient evaluation and anatomy and concluding with a chapter on 'Recent advances in local anesthesia' and 'Future trends in pain control'. The newly added chapter on 'Problems in pain control' provides solutions to help overcome failed local anesthesia. It's simple and clear language, excellent clinical photographs and illustrations and step by step guide to injection techniques make it the ideal textbook to introduce dental students to local anesthesia. I highly recommend this textbook to all students. It is the only textbook for compulsory study in our local anesthesia and pain control course and has been well received by the students.
